Use the CrossTie installer to directly install all of the components of LOTRO.
This downloader uses the Pando Media Booster technology.
The High Resolution download is still 10Gig, and takes on the order of 6-9 hours for the down load.
The Downloader on my 6Gb/s DSL line runs at approximately 5KBps, and started off telling me that the download would take approximately 9 hours! That time has since 'refined' itself to roughly 6 hours.
This means that the necessity of first downloading the complete game from one of the various sites mentioned in Tips & Tricks is no longer necessary PRIOR to using the CrossTie installer.
It is still necessary to allow the installer to download the complete game client before it can be run.
The Turbine installer will launch after the download completes. Allow it to complete.
The Turbine Client launcher will launch. This will fail and (should) pop-up an error window.
Cancel that window.
In the CXG installation window, the 'Downloading Lord of the Rings Online' should be the only item running. All of the
other entries should show 'finished.' to the right of the barber-pole and the word 'running' is an 'X' -- click on
that to abort the Turbine Launcher and to allow the CXG installer to highlight the 'Done' button.
Click the 'Done' button.
When the window closes, quit CXG.
Re-launch CXG from the applications directory /Applications/CrossOver Games.app'
in the 'Programs' pulldown, select PyLotRO.
Once PyLotRO launches, use the 'tools' pulldown, 'Settings Wizard'
Select 'Lord of the Rings Online', click Find Games.
Select the 'C:Program FilesTurbineThe Lord of the Rings Online' entry; click apply.
In the 'tools' pulldown, select 'patch'; click start.
You should see something like:
Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80
Checking files...
...... at which point, depending on the size of the patch, go get some coffee.
When 'patch' displays: '*** Finished ***' ; click exit.
Select your server, enter your Account and password and click login....
