As previously stated I want to experiment with trading on Betfair, and due to Tiger Woods doing me a massive favour on Sunday I now have the spare capital to have a separate trading bank without interfering with my normal gambling bank – so all good….. well not quite.
I wanted to use Bet Angel for Trading purposes, as i’d used them in previously when dabbling with the trading universe. However being a recent convert to all things Apple & the Mac, I discovered that Bet Angel do not support the Mac platform (swines !). You can however now run Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp which is installed on the Mac Operating system, basically in creates a separate partition on the hardrive where you can install windows & then you basically have a standalone PC inside your swanky Macbook – Nice !
It’s pretty simple to do as per below – but there are some ‘sticky’ points which are not always easy to find answers to – i’ve listed some after.
1. Buy, or obtain 🙂 yourself a copy of windows XP (don’t mess around with Vista unless you really need it)

2. Run Bootcamp (you can locate in Finder) – heres a link to Apple support article which is pretty clear
Possible problems
1. Make sure you format the drive to either FAT or NTFS (I’d go for NTFS for this exercise) & choose the standard not Quick option. DO NOT SELECT LEAVE AS IS – as this will not run windows and then leaves you with a blank screen which says DISK ERROR – PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE. However you cannot press a key so you have to reboot & hold down the Option key to select the Mac system and then go through the Bootcamp process again (can you tell I did this !)
2. Once you have installed windows, you need to insert your Mac Leopard install disk, which then installs the necessary drivers to use windows natively. I had a problem hear as I could not eject the windows disk as the eject button did not work (does after drivers are installed) & neither did selecting the option to eject disk from My computer. The solution was to turn system off & restart holding down the mouse button/trackpad which ejected the disk – it then takes you back into windows where you can insert the Mac disk.
Once drivers were installed everything worked fine, although I had to turn firewall off to establish wireless connection. Once you have internet access on windows I strongly suggest purchasing an anti virus package, I chose Norton as it’s familiar and offers 90 days free. But there are cheaper (even free) alternatives out there.
